Choosing the Right Sensor Setup: A Quick Checklist

  • High footfall entrance (mall, office lobby): Dual-technology activation sensor plus dedicated infrared presence sensors on both sides of the door.
  • Hospital or clinic doors: Prioritize presence sensors with a wide detection field to account for beds, wheelchairs, and slow-moving patients.
  • Outdoor or wind-exposed entrances: Favor dual-tech or adjustable-sensitivity microwave sensors to reduce false triggers from wind and dust.
  • Villa or low-traffic doors: A standard infrared activation and safety sensor pair is usually sufficient.
  • Any commercial installation: Confirm the sensor package meets EN 16005 before sign-off — ask your supplier for the compliance documentation.

Sensors are also one of the most common points of failure on an aging automatic door — dust buildup, misalignment, and worn cabling all degrade performance over time, which is exactly why a scheduled AMC matters as much as the initial installation.
